Reçu dès aujourd'hui, essayer dès ce soir. Je suis un ancien fumeur et la pipe me manquait énormément, ayant peur de la nicotine,je me suis dit pourquoi pas essayer les mélanges de plantes. Which variation should I choose — Regular, Clove or Mint?

Regular is the most neutral, the pure Ayurvedic base, ideal to start or to blend with other herbs. Mint is very minty, with Himalayan wild mint (Mentha arvensis) — fresh, opens the airways, useful for early transitions out of tobacco.

India has smoked for a long time, but not as the West does. The gesture belongs to dhumapana — dhuma "smoke", pana "to drink" — a respiratory protocol codified in the Charaka Samhita (~1st-2nd century) and the Sushruta Samhita (~4th century). It is an act of daily care for the breath, classed among the upakrama (routine procedures), distinct from modern compulsive smoking.

The historical ground of the Indian gesture is the bidi — a Tendu leaf (Diospyros melanoxylon) rolled tight around tobacco. The Indianmix takes its place in the Ayurvedic coherence of "spice + queen plant + vehicle", without the tobacco.

Each of the six herbs has her own lineage:

Tulsi is the queen plant of Ayurveda — Vrinda in Sanskrit, a goddess incarnate according to the Padma Purana. Planted in the courtyards of Hindu houses, in the Vishnu temples, sacred to Krishna.
Ashwagandha — the King's rasayana, given to warriors returning from battle and to the queens of Kerala. The root that smells of horse.
Vasaka (Adhatoda) — known as the "plant of the breath" in the Ayurvedic tradition, classed among the herbs that clear the airways.

The spices of the Clove variant — Indian Tamala bay + clove — are the aromatic signature of Kerala and of southern India. The wild Pudina mint of the Mint variant grows in the Himalayas.

The Indianmix RYO comes in three variations (€5.50 each), packed in pouches for rolling:

Regular — the pure Ayurvedic base, the most neutral. Ideal to start with or to blend.
Clove — the base + Indian bay + clove. Warm, spiced, a Kerala signature.
Mint — the base + wild Himalayan mint. Fresh, mentholated, opens the airways.

The gesture of slow rolling. Fine paper (rice or unbleached hemp). A pinch on the leaf, smoothed flat, rolled gently. Breathe in slowly, follow the breath.

To leave tobacco. Two paths coexist. The direct switch — replace the tobacco entirely with Indianmix from the first roll. The gradual transition — start 50/50 (tobacco + Indianmix), then 70/30, then 90/10, then 100 % Indianmix, over a few days or a few weeks depending on your rhythm. The Mint variant often helps to cross the threshold, because its freshness masks the absence of nicotine.

To compose your own smoking blend. Indianmix marries well with other smooth bases from the catalogue — Mullein, Damiana, Mugwort, Coltsfoot, Rose petals, Mexican Tarragon, Herbal Mix. And with more marked signature herbs — Calea Zacatechichi, Blue Lotus, Imphepho, Wild Poppy, pink lotus petals. Each addition shifts the sensory profile and the resonance.

As an infusion. The same herbs infuse in simmering water (5 to 10 min) — it is in fact the oldest use of the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia for these plants. A heaped spoon for 250 ml, strained, to be sipped slowly.

Suggested ritual

The slow roll. The gesture of rolling is not neutral — it belongs to the practice. A pinch of Indianmix Regular for neutrality, or Mint for freshness. On the leaf, smooth it flat. Roll gently. The hand learns what the mind lets go.

The pranic breath. Breathe the smoke in through the mouth, hold it a moment in the chest, breathe out through the nose. Three conscious breaths per roll — no more.
