wonderful. I have absolutely amazing dreams. This herb is really exceptional, very spiritual, very dreamlike see a can hallucinogenic but without any danger or loss of control. All kinds of visions, revelations and life lessons. As if I was floating before sleeping. Full of adventures at night and introspection. Thank you again!

I ordered 3 dream plants. Received quickly. The sachets contained a little more weight each and a sample of another plant was attached. THANKS! I am experimenting with them. If there is nothing transcendent for the moment, what is certain is that I remember my dreams much better... which has not happened to me for years, except when I receive messages from another location. I am therefore very happy to have arrived there so quickly, from the 3rd night.

⊹ FREQUENT QUESTIONS ⊹

We answer.

What is uvuma omhlophe (omhlope)?

Uvuma omhlope (Synaptolepis kirkii) is a root of southern Africa, from the Thymelaeaceae family. She is one of the ubulawu, the roots diviners churn into foam. Her Zulu name speaks of white: -mhlophe means 'white' (Sobiecki 2008).

Uvuma omhlope or uvuma omhlophe: how is it spelt?

Both name the same root. Zulu writes uvuma-omhlophe, with -mhlophe, 'white'; you will also see uvuma omhlope or vuma omhlophe. Her botanical name is Synaptolepis kirkii.

Uvuma omhlophe wenzani: what is uvuma used for?

Diviners of southern Africa take the root as a ritual emetic and a body wash, to help them 'see' in the metaphysical sense (Van Wyk & Gericke 2000, cited by Sobiecki). Sobiecki counts her among the ubulawu with a notable dream use. Our dreamers speak mostly of more vivid, more meaningful dreams; her effect on dreaming has yet to be studied.

How is uvuma omhlophe prepared?

As foam: 250 mg to 1 g of powder in at least 3 litres of cold water, left for 7 hours, then whisked; eat the foam on an empty stomach before sleep. As a decoction: simmer the powdered root 20 to 30 minutes and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach or at bedtime. You can also chew about 50 mg, once or twice a day.

How much uvuma omhlope should I use?

A small dose: 0.25 to 0.5 g, never more than 2 g, over 3 to 5 days, then at least two months' break. Tradition dilutes her a great deal: about one tablespoon of powder in 5 to 10 litres of water (Sobiecki). These are markers, to adjust to your own sensitivity.

How long before I feel the effects?

After 3 to 5 days with the ubulawu, with prayers and respect, the Dream Gates open up. For many, the strongest dreams come a few days after the diet, and the inner work goes on for two to four weeks. A dream journal helps you follow it.

What's the difference between uvuma omhlope and silene capensis?

They are two different plants, both ubulawu: Synaptolepis kirkii (Thymelaeaceae) for uvuma, Silene undulata (carnation family) for undlela ziimlophe. Sobiecki notes that the trade often confuses them, although their doses and effects differ. Uvuma is taken in smaller amounts.

Does uvuma omhlope help with lucid dreaming?

One of our 14 dreamers who tell of a night mentions a 'mini lucid dream'; the others describe more vivid, more symbolic dreams. The sources describe her as a plant that helps one 'see', with no word on lucidity. She is a root for dreaming with intention: a question at night, listening in the morning.

Is uvuma omhlope legal?

Freely sold in France. Check the law in your country.

What precautions with uvuma omhlope?

Keep strictly to small doses: her diterpenes can irritate skin and mucous membranes. Taken in capsules at high doses outside ritual, some users had confused, unsettling dreams (Sobiecki 2012). Avoid during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children; take care with serotonergic medication and with any psychiatric condition; keep her apart from other strong psychoactive plants.

What do people who tried uvuma omhlope say?

Of 90 reviews published on INFUSE, 14 tell of a night: 7 more vivid dreams, 7 meaningful dreams, 1 a lucid dream, 1 better recall, 1 better sleep, 1 nothing yet. Salem: 'This stuff will give you some serious symbolic dreams. A whole story line.'

Where can I buy uvuma omhlope?

Here, as a whole root wild-harvested in South Africa, and in our Ubulawu elixir. The species is under harvesting pressure, so we advise small doses.

How does uvuma omhlophe taste?

A delicate taste: a light sweetness with a touch of bitterness. One of our dreamers says it tastes a bit like a digestive bitter.

What is umuthi omhlophe?

Umuthi means "medicine" in isiZulu, and -mhlophe means "white". In Zulu medicine the colour of a remedy carries meaning: the anthropologist Harriet Ngubane describes a sequence of black, red and then white medicines, the white ones coming last to restore health and good fortune (Ngubane 1977). Uvuma omhlophe carries that white in her name.

In depthbotany · phytochemistry · history

For those who want to go below the page: botany, chemistry, then four voices, each one named. ◆ what the tradition left in writing, ◇ what research has measured, ● what our dreamers tell us, ☾ what the House says.

Botany

Synaptolepis kirkii Oliv. belongs to the Thymelaeaceae, the family of Daphne, Gnidia and Pimelea. She is a small shrub of southern and eastern Africa, found notably in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Tradition uses the root. The species is described as uncommon, and growing international demand weighs on wild populations: one more reason to use her in small amounts.

Phytochemistry

The root holds daphnane-type diterpene orthoesters. The best known, isolated in 2000, is kirkinine (He et al., Journal of Natural Products), later joined by kirkinines B to E, Synaptolepis factor K7 and other diterpenes. The root also carries triterpene saponins, which raise the white foam when the powder is beaten in cold water. The Thymelaeaceae include daphnanes among the most active natural molecules; the kirkinines appear much milder, but belong to the same class: hence the very small traditional doses.

◆ The documented tradition

Uvuma-omhlophe is the Zulu name; -mhlophe means "white" (Sobiecki 2008). The ethnobotanist Jean-François Sobiecki gathers what is known of her use. Diviners take root infusions as a ritual emetic and a body wash, to help them "see" in the metaphysical sense (Van Wyk & Gericke 2000, cited by Sobiecki 2008). Further north, among the Karanga, root infusions were given for epilepsy (Watt & Breyer-Brandwijk 1962). Sobiecki counts her among the ubulawu with a notable dream use (2012): the roots churned into foam that the diviners of southern Africa drink to meet their ancestors in dreams.

Tradition dilutes her a great deal. Sobiecki reports a traditional measure of about one tablespoon of powder in 5 to 10 litres of water, and warns that Silene capensis and Synaptolepis kirkii are often confused in trade, although their doses and effects differ.

◇ The studies

Two laboratory findings stand out. Kirkinine showed strong neurotrophic activity in vitro: it helped nerve cells survive in culture (He et al. 2000, doi:10.1021/np000249u). Synaptolepis factor K7 triggered neurite outgrowth in a human neuroblastoma cell line through PKCε and ERK signalling (Van Kolen et al. 2013, European Journal of Pharmacology, doi:10.1016/j.ejphar.2013.01.004).

These are cell-culture results, with no human data behind them. No study has looked at dreaming; how the root acts on it remains unknown.

● Our dreamers

Of 90 reviews published on INFUSE, 14 tell of a night (read one by one in September 2026; a review can say several things): 7 speak of more vivid dreams, 7 of meaningful dreams, 1 of a lucid dream, 1 of better recall, 1 of better sleep, and 1 has noticed nothing yet.

"This stuff will give you some serious symbolic dreams. A whole story line." — Salem
"Tastes a bit like a digestive bitter. Visuals in bed prior to sleep and enhanced dreaming." — a dreamer
"I have not experienced the dreams at this point. IF that changes, I will update" — Tyra

☾ The House

Our own words, from the first page: "Uvuma Omhlope is a mysterious white root found in South Africa." And: "After taking these medicines for 3 to 5 days with prayers and respect, the Dream Gates open up. This simple cure is usually enough for months of Dream Activation." Also: "For many users, the most potent dreams are gifted only a few days after the diet with the Ubulawu Medicines", and the inner work goes on for two to four weeks. We advise a small dose, 0.25 to 0.5 g, never more than 2 g, and at least two months between diets. Her taste is "delicate", "with a light sweetness and a hint of bitterness."

What precautions with uvuma omhlophe? Safety and legal status

A potent plant, used traditionally at very low doses. Her daphnane diterpenes can irritate skin and mucous membranes: handle the powder with clean hands, in small amounts, never as a concentrated extract. Taken in capsules at high doses outside ritual, Silene and Synaptolepis gave some users confused and unsettling dreams (Sobiecki 2012, p. 221). Avoid during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children; take care with serotonergic medication and with any psychiatric condition; keep her apart from other strong psychoactive plants, as no data exist.
