What is INFUSE's Love Elixir?

It is a composite elixir that brings together four heart plants: Guayusa (Ecuador), Rose (Morocco/Himalaya), Damiana (Mexico), and Blue Lotus (Egypt). Each one loves in its own way — the playful love of the guayusa, the noble love (agapé) of the rose, the maiden's love of the damiana, the sensual, mystical love of the lotus. The assembly of the four is an INFUSE proposition, not an ancient traditional recipe: each plant carries its own real lineage, the elixir is our composition.

How do you use the Love Elixir?

Two uses. Day to day, in a small amount (a few drops), to keep the heart awake — preferably in the morning or daytime because of the caffeinated guayusa. As an opening dose, on an evening of presence, one to two pipettes to rekindle the fire of the heart and open intimacy, with one other or in a circle. Damiana's traditional rule holds for the whole elixir: you do not take it alone into the void, it is a plant of relationship.

Is the Love Elixir an aphrodisiac?

The term calls for caution: INFUSE makes no promise of effect. What the lineages say is documented — Damiana belonged to the Mexican love brews, and a 17th-century Spanish missionary reported that people made a sweet drink from it to increase amorous potency. What the elixir actually does is shown by its effects, not by a promise: the inhibition that loosens, the warmth that returns to the body, the conversation that opens, the presence that settles upon the other.

Can you take it in the evening? Does it contain caffeine?

Yes, the guayusa is a caffeinated plant (the leaves typically contain 1.7 to 1.8%). It is a real question for an elixir also conceived for the evening and for ceremony: depending on the amount of guayusa in the final formula, the full dose may be better kept to the daytime. People sensitive to caffeine should approach it with the same caution as a coffee.

What precautions come with the Love Elixir?

Damiana is mildly uterotonic: avoid during pregnancy and the conception window; it inhibits MAO-B (caution with MAOI/SSRI antidepressants) and has a mild hypoglycaemic action (monitoring if blood sugar is fragile). Blue Lotus has theoretical interactions with SSRIs. Guayusa contains caffeine (caution if anxious, hypertensive, or with heart conditions; avoid the full dose in the evening). Avoid in children. If you are on treatment or in doubt, a doctor's advice comes before the plant.

The Love Elixir does not gather one plant of love — it gathers four, and each one loves in its own way. Four lineages that had never sat at the same table, which INFUSE brings together here. This is our doing, not an ancient recipe — each plant carries its own real tradition, the assembly is our proposition.

Ecuador steps forward with Guayusa (Ilex guayusa) — waisa among the Shuar and the Achuar, the holly drunk in a circle before dawn. This is playful love — a feline energy, present and available, never crisped: the rare caffeine that neither arms the body nor closes intimacy. Ecuador lends it a legend, which we keep as a legend: whoever offers it to a loved one will always see them return, however far the journey has carried them. The love that does not break the bond.

The Levant and the Himalaya lay down the Rose — gul to Rūmī, rosa to the Latins, vardha in Sanskrit. This is noble love — the one the Greeks called agapé, the love that takes nothing. Rosa damascena of Damascus, distilled drop by drop into attar: thousands of petals for a few grams. The flower that does not push — it invites, the heart that bows and does not close.

Mexico sends Damiana (Turnera diffusa) — Mizibcoc, "the one who makes the sun smile," plant of the goddess Tlazolteotl, passed down by the curanderas under one simple rule: you never drink it alone, always with another. This is the love of the maiden: clear fire, light heart, simple joy — the inner warmth that returns to the body, the inhibition that loosens of its own accord.

Egypt lays down, at last, the Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea), flower of Osiris, which opens at dawn and closes at dusk. This is sensual, mystical love: the flower the Egyptian priestesses knew, serpentine and feminine — the refinement of the senses rather than their urgency. The same grammar as the flower that closes in the evening and reopens in the morning.

The act is small, the work is wide. A few drops a day to keep the heart awake — the way you tend an ember. Or else, on an evening of presence, one to two pipettes to rekindle the fire: awaken the senses, open the conversation, invite intimacy — with one other, or with several. This elixir is not a traditional recipe: it is an INFUSE proposition. No lineage has ever assembled exactly these four plants in a single bottle — we own that. But each of the four carries a real lineage, and it is that lineage we honour.

Guayusa (Ilex guayusa) — Amazonian holly of the Shuar and Achuar of Ecuador (whom early ethnography grouped under the name Jibaro). Every morning before dawn, the circle of the wayusa upina — "drinking the guayusa" — to share the dreams and read the day to come. An Ecuadorian legend held as a legend: whoever offers it to a loved one will always see them return.

Rose (Rosa damascena, buds, organic Morocco · wild Rosa indica, Indian Himalaya) — cultivated since Antiquity in the Levant for its floral water and its oil. The Sufi Rūmī (13th c.) made it the emblem of mystical love: "the lover and the rose." A symbol of the noblest love — the one the Greeks called agapé.

Damiana (Turnera diffusa) — Mizibcoc among the Mexica, attested in ritual use since at least 1699 (Rätsch); its oldest Indigenous origin lies with the Guaycura of Baja California. Invoked in the name of Tlazolteotl, goddess of earthly love and forgiveness. Blended with cacao in the ceremonial xocoatl. A rule passed down: always with another.

Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) — flower of Osiris in ancient Egypt (ethnobotanical sources Schultes-Hofmann-Rätsch, Pendell). INFUSE claims no living lineage from it: the organised pharaonic practice died out centuries ago. We are its attentive readers, not its heirs.
