What is INFUSE's Euphoria Blend?

It is an infusion blend that gathers five plants of the shared table: Kanna (South Africa), Blue Lotus (Egypt), Rose (Morocco/Himalaya), Damiana (Mexico) and Yauhtli (Mexico). Conceived as a sacred alternative to alcohol — the conviviality of a circle, without the disconnection. The assembly of the five is an INFUSE proposition, not a traditional recipe: each plant carries its real lineage.

How is it an alternative to alcohol?

Because it holds what alcohol promises without keeping: the opening, the freer speech, the doorway between day and evening — without the fog or the next-day's debt. The social ritual stays whole: the glass you hold, the toast, the first sip together. The central plant, Kanna, is traditionally received as an alternative to alcohol in South Africa. Absolute rule: this blend replaces alcohol, it does not add to it — never the two together.

How do you prepare and share it?

As a shared infusion, ideally about thirty minutes before a meal, or cold with mint and lemon in the summer version. To drink in a circle, in small cups: in silence first, then the speech comes when it comes. It is a plant of celebration, made for gatherings. Begin low: Kanna is the teacher of moderation — at a small dose it rewards, in excess it goes flat.

With which medications must you never take it?

Because of the Kanna, which acts on serotonin: never with SSRI or MAOI antidepressants, tramadol, triptans, lithium or MDMA. The combination exposes you to a potentially severe serotonin syndrome. If you take one of these treatments, the Euphoria Blend is not for you — medical advice imperative, and respect a window of several weeks after stopping an antidepressant. What other precautions?

The Euphoria Blend is an infusion blend that gathers five plants of the shared table. A circle, to drink together. It is an INFUSE proposition — composing these five into one blend is not a recipe handed down; it is our own doing. But each one carries its real lineage, and all of them speak the same tongue: that of social opening.

At the centre, Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) — kougoed, "the thing to chew" of the Khoïkhoï and San of South Africa, whose lineage stands among the oldest continuously living of humanity (more than 100,000 years). It is the fermented heart-opener, the flower of truth spoken without alcohol: a slight step sideways, the defences fall, the words come, the gaze truly settles on the other. And it is the teacher of moderation — at a small dose it rewards, in excess it goes flat. The plant punishes greed.

Around it, four companions. Damiana (Mizibcoc) warms the body and loosens inhibition — always in twos, says her Mexican rule. Rose — gul of Rūmī, Royalty of the Heart — tilts the circle and softens the warmth; she does not push, she invites. Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea), the flower of Osiris from Hathor's Festival of Drunkenness, lays down a serene floating. This blend is an INFUSE proposition: gathering these five plants into one table infusion is not a recipe handed down by a lineage. We own it. What we honour are the five real traditions that meet here.

Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) — kougoed of the Khoïkhoï and San of South Africa, a lineage traced over more than 100,000 years. First written European mention in 1662 (Jan van Riebeeck). Its potency comes from fermentation, as essential to kanna as nixtamalization is to maize. Described in the 18th century (Thunberg) as "the chearer of the spirits."

Damiana (Turnera diffusa) — Mizibcoc among the Mexica, plant of Tlazolteotl, handed down by the curanderas under the rule "always in twos." Listed in the National Formulary of the United States from 1888 to 1947.

Rose (Rosa damascena, organic Morocco · Rosa indica wild, Himalaya) — gul of Rūmī, cultivated since Antiquity across the Levant. A symbol of the Royalty of the Heart.

Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) — flower of Osiris, infused in wine during the Festival of Drunkenness dedicated to Hathor at the temple of Dendera (ethnobotanical sources; INFUSE does not claim a living lineage for it).

Yauhtli (Tagetes lucida) — "the one who offers herself" among the Aztecs, herb of the Prince of Flowers Xochipilli, recorded as early as 1552 in the Cruz-Badiano Codex. A living Wixárika (Huichol) lineage: the jicareros still carry it toward Wirikuta. A social herb, of communion.

A small handful (~7 g) for a one-litre teapot. Infuse 7 min the first time, then 10 min the second and 10 min the third — the same matter is reused 2 to 3 times before it goes to the compost.

Water at 80-85 °C, never boiling: the Blue Lotus, the Rose, the Damiana and the Yauhtli are delicate flowers, and the Kanna carries alkaloids that violent water spoils.

To drink in small cups, in a circle — in silence first, then the speech comes. In the summer version, the same blend is drunk cold, with mint and lemon. Begin low: Kanna is the teacher of moderation.
